First piggy-tails

Today we tried something new. After Kaitlyn's bath, I was going to put her hair back into a half-pony tail, but the sides were just a tad too short for me to hang onto, so I thought I would try piggy-tails. I was concerned at first that her hair would not part down the middle, but as you can see it worked out just fine. This would have been disappointing to me, because I have always had such fun putting up and braiding my own hair, that I really wanted to be able to do the same for Kaitlyn. I have to say, she is so cute with piggy-tails! When daddy got home we had to show off our pretty piggies, and boy did he like them. He told us how cute they were and that he thought we should do them again sometime! Daddy gave Kaitlyn lots of kisses and she giggled and laughed for a long time...too bad it was so close to bedtime...will daddy ever learn? The only thing left to do at the end of the day was take them out and comb our hair. Well, she had pony-tail hair to say the least. It was made worse by the fact that I had put up her hair while it was wet, but any mom will tell you that this is the best time to put hair up, that way it stays in place all day long! Needless to say, when I put her to bed her poor little hairs were all standing at attention, waiting for the "time to go to bed march".

First playdate

So our friend Brianne's mamma had something come up and her regular babysitter couldn't watch her, so we are having our first playdate! The girlies have had so much fun playing together. Brianne is 8mo and Kaitlyn is 5 1/2mo, so they don't really play together, but they do converse back and forth as they play with their individual toys.

Day 1:
I had to go up to the school to record my "family thank you" for the nursing school pinning ceremony. Both of the girls were in jovial moods and the day was so beautiful, so I decided to walk up there. I put Brianne in the jogging stroller and Kaitlyn into the carrier and hot-footed it up to MNU. The girls just giggled and talked the whole way. I think both of them really enjoy the sunshine. After we got home and everybody took naps, they played with toys on the living room floor for awhile. It's funny how a little friendly competetion can help a person grow. Kaitlyn really wanted to practice sitting up because Brianne could do it all by herself. Notice that Kaitlyn needed a little help from the boppy pillow.

Day 2: The girls had a really fun day and between playing with toys taking naps, and eating. Because it was another beautiful (read 75 degrees - aren't you jealous)day and we found a little two person stroller, we went for another walk. It was so cute to watch Brianne and Kaitlyn reach out and hold one another's hands as we walked. With all of the exciting things to see, smell and hear, there wasn't a whole lot of time to play with the doll and book we brought with us.

Day 3: It rained all day today (we hope daddy didn't get soaking wet riding on his scooter) so we had to stay inside and play the whole time, well aside from our leisurely naps and several course meals (for Brianne). The funny today was when Brianne was eating green beans. Apparently she has a severe distain for grean beans and while you are feeding them to her she stores them in her cheeks. At the most inopportune time she spits them out at you (read: covered me from head to toe with green beans). Oh my, how funny it was - she and I laughed for a good 10 min over it. She still had to eat her green beans though, that's life! Today was also the first day that Brianne had ever said mamma, so I recorded it with our camera for here mamma and daddy. That way her daddy can't say that she didn't say it! Kaitlyn had a fairly laid back day! I think she's like her mamma on rainy days, likes to just chill out with a good book and warm covers, after a nice, long, warm bath with nothing else to do.

Needless to say, we three girls had a great time and Kaitlyn and Brianne enjoyed playing together. I hope this is the start of a long friendship for them!

First Ever Blog

me and elli and mom

So, I am attempting to be better at keeping in touch with family and friends, therefore this blog was created! I don't promise a post every day, but I will keep updating information as I go.

My very precious Kaitlyn has been vocalizing all sorts of sounds and syllables, and last Friday she made my day. She was sitting in her bouncy seat babbling away telling me all about her day (bababababa-gggggggggg-aaaaaaaayyyyy-pththththth), when out of the blue she looks me right in the eyes and says "mamama-bababababa-gggggggggg-aaaaaaaayyyyy-pththththth". Now I know that at 5 1/2 months old they are supposed to say syllables, but rarely do they recognize what they are saying. So, I just assumed that she had started using the "ma" syllable to practice. Oh no! This child of mine not only knows who I am, but tells me (and her daddy) so by calling me by name! I know this because when I came home from work on Saturday morning she proved it. Daddy was holding her in the kitchen, facing him, so she couldn't see me come in the door, and she looked right at her daddy, stuck out her bottom lip and said "Maaaaaaaaaaama". I smiled and called her by name very quietly and she turned her head clear around her body, clasped her hands together, threw them up in the air and exclaimed "Maaaama!". Talk about making my day.

I have been teasing daddy ever since that he taught her to say it so that when she wakes up at 5am needing a diaper change and to be fed, she calls out for me instead of him, thereby allowing him a few extra minutes of sleep. I was just kidding of course because I know he would love to hear her say dada.

Now every time she talks to me she addresses me, and if I look away or am not paying enough attention she lets me know by calling my name!

My sweet baby is growing up and is no longer a newborn. I miss the snuggles and cuddles that only a newborn can provide, but I am enjoying the experiences that come with each new day. Don't get me wrong, she still loves to snuggle and cuddle with me, but sometimes I think I am just a safe place for her to watch the world. She is so attentive and alert, watching everything, taking it all in! I am amazed when I watch her explore her world, everything is new and exciting to her, even if she's seen it a hundred times.

I am hoping to take her to get professional pictures done to celebrate completing half of a year so far! We'll see how that goes. I'll keep you posted!
